Many drones owners have experienced frustrations when using their drone’s camera. Some are confused about why the drone’s camera is not functioning properly and how they can fix this problem.
The drone has been experiencing serious troubles in functioning due to many factors such as poor calibration, bad cards, scratched lens, and much more. Drone crashes can also be caused from improper use or insufficient understanding of how it operates – all of which eventually lead to its broken condition.
Why is My Drone Camera Freezing?
When your drone’s transmission feed cuts out without warning, it usually means that there are too many obstacles blocking the signal or there is some type of interference from other electromagnetic waves. You can fix this problem by recalibrating the drone’s compass so that it has a steady signal.
Why is My Drone Camera Not Focusing?
Your drone’s camera might not be focusing correctly due to external factors such as dust on the lens, moisture trapped inside the camera, autofocus malfunctioning, or faulty hardware. For DJI drones and its Renewal Program, contact them so they can repair your drone’s camera or replace it if necessary.
If there are any dust particles on the drone camera lens, then simply remove them with a clean cotton cloth, and they will work as good as new.
If you find any scratches on your drone camera lens, either purchase a new one or take it to DJI. If you are using a DJI drone and have purchased their Refresh service plan, then they will fix it in 4-5 days.
If you see water droplets on your drone camera lens, set it outside under the sun for an hour without any batteries and then check if there are any water droplets left on the camera lens.
Why Does My Drone Camera Showing Black Screen?
Most of the time, when a drone is updated to new firmware, it displays only a black screen. This is because some drones aren’t compatible with new software updates and don’t work properly. For example, if there’s an error due to this incompatibility, the camera could freeze and show just a black screen while still operating as normal. However, these malfunctions can be temporary and fixed by switching between on/off mode for two times before they stop working completely.
How to Fix Black Screen Showing on Drone Camera?
In order to fix the black screen issue on your drone, you will need to downgrade its firmware. In the event that this doesn’t work, replace the camera.
Recently, I took my DJI Mavic Pro Drone out for a ride thinking of capturing some photos and videos of the scenic beauty around me. But it all came crashing down when something went terribly wrong.
My DJI app showed a black screen and seemed to stop working when I opened it. Lost for ideas about what to do next, I looked up possible solutions online.
After spending a couple of minutes searching, I found advice such as restarting the computer and switching out the SD card. But nothing worked at all.
I looked up some solutions online to try and fix the problem with my Mavic Pro drone. One person had said the lens could have been scratched or broken, so I needed to buy a new one. However, when I priced out how much it would cost me to replace it – about $110-150 USD – I just couldn’t afford it right now.
I remembered that I had never crashed my drone before and looked at the camera lens, which did not have any scratches or marks on it.
My drone’s firmware was last updated before I flew it. However, after inspecting the current version number of the firmware on my remote control, there seemed to be no problem.
After the firmware update, you cannot go back to a previous version. You will need to use a PC and downgrade the device before being able to install an older version of the firmware.
For connecting the drone to the computer, you need a micro-USB cable.
After connecting, install the DJI Assistant tool onto your PC for uploading to the drone’s firmware through this software.
After that, you need to open the DJI Assistant software on your PC and select the drone model icon. In my case, I have DJI Mavic Pro, so I choose the icon and click on the firmware update option.
Now it displays the latest version of this software. I need to downgrade back to an older firmware, so I click on the option that reads Downgrade. A dialogue box appears telling me how long this process will take – which could potentially take up to three minutes.
How to Fix My Drone Camera Angle?
In order to fix the drone’s camera angle you need to recalibrate it on a flat surface. Avoid any metals or electronics while doing so.
Another way to alter the perspective of this drone camera is by enabling the gridlines and adjusting the gimbal roll, which can be used for manual adjustments on the horizontal alignment of this drone camera.
Here are the steps to need to follow for adjusting the drone camera angle.
- Go to camera settings and select miscellaneous
- Choose the grid option
- Click Grid-lines and enable it
- After that back to the menu and go to gimbal settings
- Select Adjust Gimbal Roll
- Start adjusting the camera angle by clicking the corresponding arrow
- Adjust according to grid lines to get perfect horizontal alignment
Conclusion
As you can see, there are many different types of drones, and they all have the potential to be great. However, they can all have their share of issues as well.
