What is Return to Home (RTH)?

Types of Return To Home (RTH) in DJI Drones
DJI drones provide several preventive measures for safe operation during flight. One such measure is the Return to Home function, which returns the aircraft back to its takeoff point when it detects an unsafe environment or loses connection with the controller.
The failsafe return-to-home button is triggered when you lose contact with your drone for over 11 seconds. If the firmware update of your drone reaches 22.214.171.124 or higher, it will fly backwards for fifty meters in the direction of its last flight path and continue to move at that height until reaching a straight-line return-to-home setting where it will land safely near you.
If the failsafe Return to Home (RTH) is triggered, the drone will do one of three things depending on how you set up the RTH process in the DJI app.
When it comes to drone flight, there are two options for Return To Home. The first case is that if you set the RTH height on the DJI app settings, then if the drone loses signal in the middle of the flight for 11 seconds, it will fly back 50 meters (150 feet) on the original path until it gets the signal back. Once this happens, you can cancel out or return from an automated Return To Home process.
In order to prevent the drone from taking off when you don’t want it to, there are two options for this. First of all, if the Tello app is set on Hover Mode, it will stay where you put it and wait for your command before moving anywhere else – so that way you can walk up to the drone and reconnect with the Bluetooth signal. If however, the battery fails and returns home or lands (depending on what we choose in our Drone settings) because of lack of connection between us then Tello would follow suit.
In the event of signal loss, if the settings are set to land, then the drone will do so in its current position.
Low Battery RTH
The Low Battery RTH is triggered when the drone battery depletes past a certain threshold, and there isn’t enough power to get it back home.
When this happens, you get an indicator on your screen in the DJI flight app, and the drone will automatically start to adjust its altitude and return to its original starting point if no action is taken within ten seconds.
You can also abort the Return-to-Home (RTH) process by pressing the RTH button on the remote controller. If you abort the RTH after receiving a low battery warning, then it is possible that the battery will not have enough power to make it safely back down without crashing, leading to potential damage or injury.
If the battery gets too low, then the drone will automatically land from its current altitude, and there isn’t anything that you can do about it. This type of Return-to-Home (RTH) is very dangerous for your drone because it may crash on trees or even end up landing in water instead. Smart RTH means when you trigger Return to home by pressing the RTH button on the remote controller or tapping the RTH option on the DJI app. Once you press the RTH button and the GPS signals are strong, your drone will fly back to its designated home point. You can stop your drone during this process by pressing the stop icon on the DJI app.
If you push the RTH button when your drone is within 20 meters of you, it will automatically land. If there is an unsafe area nearby, then the drone will find an appropriate landing location and wait for manual intervention before landing.
DJI Mini 2 Return to Home Accuracy
Most DJI drones have a return to home function, but some models have advanced features while others only contain standard features. So what are the differences in accuracy when it comes to these functions across different DJI drone models? If this is true, how accurate is the DJI Mini 2’s return to home function?
The DJI Mini 2’s return to home is not as accurate as other flagship DJI drones. But, the Mini 2’s return to home functions just fine; it only lands up to four meters away from its designated point during return-to-home mode.
How to Update the Home Point in DJI Mini 2?
To update the home point on your drone, follow these steps: 1) click on the three dots of the right-hand side corner in the DJI fly app; 2) after that, click on Safety and scroll down to find Update Home Point; 3) tap Update Home Point and it will bring up a map showing your current location – remember to turn airplane mode off beforehand.
You can do three things within this setting. First, click the right-hand side RC icon to put the drone where you are currently with the remote controller, or tap on the arrow button, which shows the drone’s location.
You can also drag with your finger and select different home points by moving the H icon along with the Map, which is great when you are walking or if you’re going to be cycling, running, or on a boat. Once you select the new Home point, press Ok- it will then say Home Point Updated after a successful update has been completed. You can update the Mini 2 Home point multiple times.
How to Use DJI Mini 2 Return to Home Feature?
There are several steps for using the DJI Mini 2 return to home (RTH) feature.
- The first step of using RTH is to set the RTH altitude on the flight safety section of the DJI Fly app. Set it at least 10 ft. higher than any nearby obstacles in order to prevent them from being detected as a collision risk.
- After that, you need to record your Home Point with at least ten strong GPS signals. You can set the take-off location or use the remote controller as a Home Point.
- If RTH is activated within 20 meters of the home point, the drone will remain hovering in its current location and not return home.
- If the drone has been triggered outside the radius of 20 meters from its home point, it will automatically fly back at a speed of 10.5 m/s (37.8 kmph).
How to Set Return to Home Height in DJI Mini 2?
